Geneticist by training, sustainable animal production enthusiast at heart, I am interested in unravelling how sustainability fits into the animal industry (and how the animal industry can accommodate for sustainability). My PhD was focused on exploring the genetics behind lower methane emitting dairy cows and what incorporating methane into a breeding goal would mean for dairy cattle populations. I followed that up with a postdoc focused on the impact of the ruminal microbial profile in feed efficiency and methane emissions in cattle. I consider myself more of a "connect-the-dots", "look-at-the-bigger-picture" type of scientist, which means I take into account as many aspects of the animal sciences (not only genetics).
