Farming goes digital
Precision Livestock Farming is the use of advanced technologies to optimize the contribution of each animal. Through this per animal approach, the farmer aims to deliver better results in livestock farming. Those results can be quantitative, qualitative or addressing sustainability and animal welfare. Animals can be monitored for growth, fertility and health. Therefore, forage and antibiotics can be adjusted to the needs of the individual animal. On the one hand smart technologies like these contribute to expansion and industrialization. But they also make niche markets possible, such as locally produced organic meat.
During the i3B Café Precision Livestock Farming will be discussed from three interesting angles. Martin Scholten (WUR Animal Sciences Group) speaks from a research perspective, Lucas Noldus (Noldus IT) from a technological perspective and Bernard de Geus (Breed4Food) from an economic perspective.
